Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect

When you use the Handmade Checker Chrome extension, we collect the listing title, description, and main image from Etsy product pages you choose to scan. This data is sent to Google Gemini AI for authenticity analysis and is not stored permanently on our servers.

The extension uses Chrome's local storage API to retain: your analysis history, cached results (expiring after 5 minutes), auto-scan preferences, onboarding state, and session tokens. This data stays on your device and can be cleared at any time through the extension or Chrome settings.

2. Account Information

When you create an account, we store your email address and a hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email from Google. We use this solely to identify your account, manage your subscription, and enforce rate limits.

3. Payment Information

Payments are processed entirely through Stripe. We never see or store your credit card details. Stripe provides us with your subscription status and a customer identifier.

4. How We Use Your Data

We use your data for these purposes:

  • To analyze Etsy listings for AI-generated content (with your consent)
  • To operate your account and manage your subscription (contract performance)
  • To process payments through Stripe (contract performance)
  • To improve the extension and monitor usage trends (legitimate interest)
  • To comply with legal obligations

5. Data Sharing & Third-Party Services

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for their own use. However, we rely on these service providers to operate:

  • Google Gemini AI— receives listing title, description, and image to perform authenticity analysis. Google does not retain this data for model training per their API terms.
  • Supabase— hosts your account data (email, hashed password, subscription status) and handles authentication.
  • Stripe— processes all payments. We receive only your subscription status and a customer identifier; no payment details reach our servers.

6. Data Security

We protect your data using industry-standard measures: all data transmitted between the extension, our servers, and third-party services is encrypted in transit using TLS/HTTPS. Account passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel only.

7. Data Retention

Account data is retained until you delete your account. Analysis history is stored locally in your browser via Chrome's storage API and can be cleared at any time. Cached analysis results expire after 5 minutes. We may retain anonymized, aggregated data indefinitely for analytics purposes.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent — stop analysis of future listings at any time
  • Opt out of sale — we do not sell personal information, but you may still submit a request under applicable laws

9. International Data Transfers

Our service providers (Google Gemini AI, Supabase, Stripe) operate servers in the United States. If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, your data may be transferred to the US. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission as the safeguard for these transfers.

10. Children's Privacy

Handmade Checker is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their data, please contact us so we can delete it.

11. Automated Decision-Making

The extension uses Google Gemini AI to automatically analyze Etsy listings and generate authenticity scores and explanations. This is an automated decision based solely on the listing content you choose to submit. You are not subject to legal or similarly significant effects based on this analysis.

12. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and may notify you through the extension or by email. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
